Our design process is collaborative - we take the time to listen and understand who our clients are and believe that a relationship built on trust is essential. We are happy to provide as much or as little hand-holding as our clients need with the ultimate goal of creating an enjoyable and stress-free design experience.

We are a full-service interior design firm with expertise in every phase of the building process. Our work spans both residential design and commercial projects, and includes renovations and new construction. 

We regularly partner on projects with architects, builders, landscape designers and artisans, and have an extensive network of construction and design professionals from which to draw.

  • Cara Scarola, M.Iarc. / Principal

    Cara has been designing high-end residential and commercial interiors in Santa Fe and beyond for over 15 years. Prior to starting her own firm in 2009, she worked for high-end architecture, interior design, and design-build firms in Portland, Oregon and New York City. Although her personal aesthetic tends towards warm, modern spaces, she has an appreciation for and is well versed in a variety of styles and enjoys working with clients to create personal spaces that reflect their wants and tastes. She believes that every project should emphasize a degree of timelessness and sophistication while also enhancing the lives of its inhabitants. Her process is centered around a a strong relationship between designer and client that is rooted in collaboration and trust. Cara’s work is heavily influenced by her travels throughout Europe, Asia, and South America, as well as her study of fine art. Her work has been featured in a variety of national and international publications.

    Cara holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from Lewis and Clark College and a Master of Interior Architecture from the University of Oregon. She lives in Santa Fe with her husband, two children, and a dog named Duncan.

  • Bailey Sachs / Associate Designer

    With a Bachelor of Art in both journalism and digital filmmaking, Bailey brings a unique perspective to BUILT. Her experience as an event coordinator and marketing professional in combination with her strong organizational skills make her an excellent project manager. Bailey is equally comfortable in the office working with clients as she is on the job site coordinating subcontractors and insuring that a client’s vision is met. Bailey’s calm thoughtful energy and adept creative eye add strength to all of our design projects.

  • Josie Hultberg / Business Manager

    With over 20 years of experience in upper-level business management, Josie brings a wealth of knowledge and professionalism to the Built Design team. Her previous work for diverse organizations serving clients has allowed her to develop a wide range of invaluable skills. Josie oversees the micro and macro operations of our studio and retail showroom, tracks project schedules, monitors finances, develops marketing strategies, and manages communication on behalf of the Built Design team. Her ability to lead, collaborate, and problem solve in combination with her positivity and enthusiasm make her an integral part of our organization.
